Idle Brick Smasher

Idle Brick Smasher is a new idle/incremental game inspired by classics like Breakout and Idle Brick Breaker, aiming to smash bricks as quickly as possible. It features both active and passive playstyles with procedurally generated levels.

This game is in active development (Dec 2024), currently testing Phase 1 (early game), where the goal is to smash bricks to level up, earn upgrade points, and enhance your paddle and/or balls.

Future phases will introduce more features and add depth to the game. Join our Discord server to share feedback and be part of the community.

How To Play

Controls

Use WASD or ARROW keys to move the paddle and the MOUSE to navigate menus and buy upgrades.

Bricks

New bricks spawn every few seconds, indicated by the progress bar at the top moving from right to left, pushing old bricks down a row. Each new row has higher health.

Upgrades

Earn upgrade points (UP) by leveling up or smashing special bricks, then use them to upgrade your paddle or balls in the Upgrades menu at the bottom.

Balls

Balls passively smash bricks, with new ones unlocking at certain levels. Hitting a ball with your paddle grants Active Hits, a limited boost shown by a tail, ending when hits run out or the ball reaches the bottom of the screen.

Paddle

The paddle actively smashes bricks by controlling and boosting balls and firing a weapon when charged. If left idle, it will disable itself after a few seconds.

Offline progress

Offline progress is currently not available.

Save / Load

The game saves automatically every few seconds, but without cloud saving, there's a risk of losing your progress. Additionally, Itch.io's versioning system uploads each update to a different path, which can also lead to lost saves. To avoid this, it's recommended to back up your progress regularly.

like the game but i dont understand the reasoning for the paddle to go away after a certain amount of time? "

it will disable itself after a few seconds. " Why do i have to be active when im playing an idle game where i just want the pad to stay where it is and keep on shooting to farm more efficient.

The game is an incremental/idle game with an active gameplay element where you control the paddle to shoot bricks and boost the balls you hit. If you don’t actively play, the paddle and its boosts will be lost.

Seems like a decent start to build from, so far. Looking forward to when it has a bit more content to it!

Minor notes:
-Scrolling with the scrollwheel is *way* too sensitive at the moment
-The ability to buy upgrades doesn't seem *quite* properly aligned with the resources you have - I was able to buy a 1.25 upgrade when I had 1.08 and it put me negative for a bit, and later I wasn't able to buy a 1.00 upgrade despite the resource counter showing I had exactly that much.
-For the future, some kind of 'buy for all balls' option might be a nice qol upgrade since personally I like to keep them even with each other
-It's a bit hard to read the text in the upgrade screen without zooming in, on PC
-Some kind of 'ball reset option' might be nice early on; my first nall got stuck bouncing left to right for a good two minutes with no way to do anything about it except let the bricks keep getting lower until it was able to hit them and bounce a different way
-The blue bricks don't seem to do anything different to the normal bricks as far as I can tell, some indication of how they're different would be nice

Best of luck going forward!

Thank you for playing and giving feedback! 🥰

The scroll function worked fine in the editor but seems overly sensitive in the browser. I’ve added scroll sensitivity option to my to-do list, as I’m sure it varies across different computers as well.

Interesting about the upgrade points. I haven’t encountered this issue before. I’ll do some additional testing.

Nice idea with the buy-all button, I’ll keep that in mind.

I have it on my list to improve text readability. Did you experience this issue in full-screen mode as well?

There’s actually a feature that resets the ball after 20-30 seconds if it doesn’t hit a brick, respawning it near the paddle. I’m surprised that didn’t work for you.

The blue bricks are a test for special brick spawns with a low chance. They should grant an extra upgrade point when destroyed, but I noticed a bug after publishing where some normal bricks turn blue after being hit 😅

Less in full-screen, but still not easy to read. And weird that that didn't work for me, yeah.
